At Prestogeorge, we will be quick to tell your that we go through more Sumatra Mandheling coffee than any other bean! It is our signature house coffee and is featured in our house blend, the J.P. Hearty blend. If you asked our late founder and master roaster John Prestogeorge (1929-2010) what his best coffee is, he would point you to Sumatra. The rich, earthy, full body, but mild flavor is owed to the humid climate on the island of Sumatra. The farmers there use a special process called wet hulling, or Giling Basah. This means the farmers will dry the green coffee beans halfway before they sell them at market. It is then on the buyer to finish the drying process before the raw coffee is resold. This two-step drying process is mainly responsible for the unmistakable and sometimes polarizing flavor of Sumatra coffee. You haven’t had Prestogeorge coffee until you’ve had a cup of Sumatra!

    The Perfect Blend & Pairing

Posted by David Akins on Aug 8th 2024

The Sumatra Mandheling is a very smooth & light coffee. My wife like a more mild coffee than I, so we have Presto George grind & blend 40% Sumatra Mandheling & 60% Sumatra Continental together. We have been ordering for years from Presto George. They have the best biscotti anywhere. These are a great pair.
